Job Summary:

The Merchandiser/Development Manager – Safety Apparel (Workwear) will be responsible for leading the development of innovative and high-performance workwear products. This role involves overseeing the research, design, and implementation of new materials, technologies, and product improvements while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in textile engineering, material science, and garment manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Product Development & Innovation:
    Lead the research and development of new workwear designs, ensuring functionality, durability, and compliance with industry safety standards.
    Identify and evaluate new fabrics, trims, and finishing techniques to enhance product performance.
    Collaborate with designers and engineers to develop ergonomic and user-friendly workwear solutions.
    Implement sustainable and cost-effective production methods.
  2. Technical Expertise & Material Research:
    Stay updated on advancements in textile technology, smart fabrics, and protective workwear solutions.
    Analyze material properties and recommend the best options for specific work environments.
    Conduct laboratory and field tests to validate fabric and garment performance.
  3. Process Improvement & Quality Assurance:
    Develop and implement best practices for improving product performance and efficiency.
    Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO, EN, ASTM, and other relevant safety regulations.
    Work closely with production and quality control teams to address manufacturing challenges and optimize processes.
  4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
    Liaise with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers to source and test new materials.
    Partner with marketing and sales teams to align product development with market demands and customer needs.
    Provide technical support to internal teams and clients on workwear product features and innovations.
  5. Project Management & Documentation:
    Oversee R&D projects from concept to commercialization, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.
    Maintain technical documentation, research reports, and product specifications.
    Prepare presentations and reports for management and stakeholders on R&D progress and innovations.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Textile Engineering, Material Science, Fashion Technology, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in research and development, preferably in workwear or protective clothing.
Strong knowledge of fabric properties, textile testing, and garment manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with industry safety standards and certifications.
Experience with CAD software and other design tools is a plus.
