Position: Culinary Instructor

Reports To: Program Lead – Vocational Education

Role Overview:

The Culinary Instructor will introduce children with disabilities to cooking skills, promoting independence, sensory learning, and vocational readiness. The role involves structured hands-on cooking activities with safety adaptations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and adapt the culinary curriculum based on the needs of the students and program.

• Teach basic food preparation skills, including measuring, mixing, cutting (with adaptations), and cooking.

• Use visual supports, step-by-step guides, and hands-on demonstrations to enhance understanding.

• Ensure kitchen safety by providing guided practice with age-appropriate tools.

• Adapt recipes and activities to accommodate motor skills and sensory processing needs.

• Develop Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and update them regularly.

• Conduct assessments to track students' progress in kitchen skills and independence.

• Organize Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) on Saturdays if necessary to involve families in their child's learning.

• Encourage teamwork, independence, and self-care through meal preparation.

• Work collaboratively with the program team to reinforce motor skills and daily living skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree or certification in Culinary Arts, Home Economics, Special Education, or a related field.

• Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities.

• Understanding of adaptive cooking tools and techniques for special needs learners.

• Strong organization, patience, and creativity in lesson planning.

• Commitment to inclusive learning and sensory-based instruction.
