Head Indirect Tax, OR & Governance & Reporting

Area of interest: Audit, Accounting & Finance

Strategy:
Ensure taxes are managed and no regulatory impact or financial penalty on the bank for being non-compliant with the provision of the Tax Laws.

Business:

• Provide timely advice to business both in country and globally on country's tax issues and related tax treaties including new bank products.

• Efficiently support business transactions through providing tax inputs and quantifying tax impact.

• Assistance/guidance to business & operation units in the implementation of indirect tax provisions.

Processes:

• Assist Head Tax for review of tax reporting including tax provisioning (current/deferred), balance sheet numbers, and consolidation packs, tax risk & litigation reporting, and tax forecasted numbers;

• Review all tax key control self-assessment (KCSA), control sample testing (CST) and key risk indicator (KRI) activities.

• Review of finance budget recommendation, regulatory orders, tax developments and emerging tax issues in the country;

• Assist Head Tax in timely and accurate submission of statutory tax returns, statements and reports to tax authorities, central bank and the group.

• Reviewing the internal processes for indirect tax return completion to ensure that these are prepared in compliance with local tax rules and filed on a timely basis.

• Keeping up to date on indirect tax changes and provides updates/training to relevant colleagues, where required.

• Manage indirect tax audits and disputes to minimize exposures and assessments.

• Coordinate with group client tax information (CTI) team for extraction and timely submission of FATCA and CRS customer information.

People and Talent:

• Independent and confident, able to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.

• Exhibiting good networking and cross team collaboration skills - working with varied streams within finance and across various departments within the bank.

Risk Management:

• Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks applicable to tax.

• Effective management of operational risk within the function by ensuring the proper functioning of embedded periodic controls through control sample testing (CST) and key risk indicators (KRI).

Governance:

• Adherence to laws and regulations, internal risk and compliance/tax policies and the group code of conduct.

• Ensure tax working meetings are called on a periodic basis and minutes are timely prepared and circulated to the members of the working group and decisions are implemented in true spirit.

Regulatory & Business Conduct:

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the group's values and code of conduct.

• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
