Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Facilities and Administrative Services Officer, you will lead a team of diverse professionals, setting a strategic direction for technical services and processes that align with the Division's vision, mission, and values. You should be a proactive change agent with a passion for innovative quality management systems that enhance patient care. Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Building strategic relationships with key stakeholders locally and globally, including AKDN partners
  • Assessing risks, making business trade-offs, and implementing optimal solutions
  • Providing regular updates to project sponsors and stakeholders, designing analytical frameworks, and establishing evaluation mechanisms for project outcomes
  • Preparing and managing the divisional budget, overseeing financial and human resources
  • Planning, coordinating, and leading initiatives across all services under the Facilities Management Division, including biomedical engineering, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, grounds, and power generation, ensuring standards and efficient service delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards while meeting internal and external customer expectations
  • Reviewing and improving current processes and systems
  • Implementing innovative ideas to reduce costs and supporting new program initiatives
  • Recruiting, retaining, and developing staff to enhance technical capabilities
  • Providing leadership and problem-solving support, fostering strong relationships with peers, staff, and customers
  • Managing projects and facilitating initiatives, implementing systems that reflect the division's philosophy
  • Participating in patient care initiatives and representing AKU at national and international forums
Requirements

You should possess:

  • A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical, from a recognized university; a Master's degree is preferred
  • 10 to 12 years of progressive experience managing facilities, supervising staff, managing budgets, and leading training programs in large organizations
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to establish clear standards, understanding implications and impacts
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
  • Deep technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, power plants, biomedical/electronics systems
  • A proven track record in managing organizational utilities with credibility and delivering value
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, adaptable to dynamic and unpredictable environments
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience supervising core staff responsible for smooth service operations to achieve organizational objectives
