Union Steel Industries (USI) is seeking a qualified and experienced Combustion Engineer to oversee and optimize the operation of the reheating furnace at our state-of-the-art steel mill. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient fuel combustion, temperature control, and seamless furnace operation to support high-quality steel production.

From humble beginnings with a single plant commissioned in 1980, we are now one of the few steel manufacturers in Pakistan with a fully automatic European state-of-the-art plant that has a total rolling capacity of more than 200,000 tonnes per annum.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor the reheating furnace to ensure optimal temperature profiles for billet heating prior to rolling.
• Design, evaluate, and maintain combustion systems, burners, and control mechanisms.
• Adjust air-fuel ratios and combustion parameters to achieve energy efficiency and product quality.
• Coordinate with the rolling mill production team to ensure heating schedules align with rolling operations.
• Troubleshoot furnace-related issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
• Analyze fuel consumption and emissions, proposing improvements to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Perform periodic inspection, calibration, and maintenance of combustion equipment.
• Maintain detailed logs, performance reports, and maintenance records.
• Support installation and commissioning of new furnace components and automation upgrades.

Qualifications/ Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience operating or managing industrial furnaces, preferably in steel or heavy manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of combustion principles, gas burners, furnace insulation, and thermal efficiency.
• Familiarity with automation and control systems (PLC, SCADA) for furnace operation.
• Understanding of occupational safety and environmental regulations.
• Analytical thinking with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
