Role Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Migration Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for migrating data from different data sources and applications into our system, utilising relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server. You will write and optimize SQL scripts and stored procedures, ensuring that all data migration processes are efficient, accurate, and secure. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with database development, data integration, and expertise in both PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server. Experience of working with SnapLogic/Kafka integration platform and data warehouse technologies is desirable. You will collaborate with various internal and external teams to successfully integrate external data into our platform while maintaining data integrity and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

● Data Migration: Design and implement data migration strategies, moving data from external platforms into our PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server databases.

● SQL Development: Write, debug, and optimize complex SQL scripts and stored procedures to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data into our systems.

● Stored Procedures & Scripts: Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, views, and scripts for data transformation and integration.

● Database Management: Manage, update, and maintain PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance and reliability during migrations.

● Data Mapping: Analyze, map, and transform data to ensure accuracy and consistency across systems during migrations.

● Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve any database issues, performance bottlenecks, and errors related to data integration or migration.

● Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure smooth migrations.

● Data Validation: Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency by performing rigorous testing and validation throughout the migration process.

● Performance Tuning: Optimize SQL queries and database performance to improve data migration efficiency and reduce downtime.

Knowledge and Skills:

● Technical Expertise:

• Proven experience with PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server in a data migration or database developer role.
• Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL scripts, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Strong understanding of data migration strategies and best practices.
• Experience with ETL processes and tools for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Familiarity with RDBMS design principles and database normalization.

● Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot database issues, query performance problems, and data discrepancies.

● Data Handling: Experience with large datasets and understanding of how to handle sensitive data securely and efficiently.

● Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams.

● Attention to Detail: Strong focus on data accuracy and integrity throughout the migration process.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Familiarity with scriptinglanguages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.

● Experience with data warehousing solutions and methodologies.

● Experience of working with SnapLogic/Kafka integration platform

● Knowledge of cloud-based database systems such as AWS RDS.

● Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization techniques.

● Certification in PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server is a plus.
