REGULAR TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities of the Clinical Nurse Instructor include but are not limited to:
- Orientation of new nurses
- Development and management of mandatory education
- Clinical support and ongoing education of nurses
- Assessment of nurses using clinical competencies
- Identify and respond to the learning needs of individuals and the service
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of education within the organization
The Clinical Nurse Instructor is responsible for maintaining and developing the following key performance areas:
CLINICAL PRACTICE- Perform nursing practice in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Practice within own abilities.
- Demonstrate accountability for nursing practice.
- Demonstrate a high level of understanding, knowledge, and skills in relevant field.
- Demonstrate expert clinical knowledge through problem-solving and decision-making.
- Conduct needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools. Assist learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes.
- Incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs.
- Coordinate orientation of new staff with Nursing Education Services and Human Resources.
- Develop and coordinate education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
- Develop and coordinate core education to address patient population-specific nursing care.
- Identify and evaluate instructional materials in all types of media and formats.
- Adjust content and teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs.
- Provide educational opportunities that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development.
- Deliver competence-based programs for nursing staff focusing on skill improvement and knowledge retention.
- Support staff development with educational activities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs.
- Prepare short- and long-term planning and programs to address identified needs.
- Undertake components of the performance review process.
- Promote and participate in quality improvement activities and organizational accreditation processes.
- Participate in relevant committees, meetings, and service activities, providing feedback and disseminating information.
- Assess and evaluate the quality of educational resources and equipment needed for nurses' learning needs.
- Participate in critical incident debriefings as required.
- Participate in the development and review of clinical guidelines.
- Respond to changes in nursing practice and develop programs to support these changes.
- Ensure educational programs align with organizational missions, values, and goals.
- Maintain flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities.
- Interpret and communicate across multiple disciplines.
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment.
- Serve as a role model to promote excellence and safety.
- Maintain required educational and clinical competencies.
- Seek opportunities to develop staff in various roles.
- Integrate ethical principles into all aspects of practice.
- Serve as a role model for education and professional nursing practice.
- Promote lifelong learning concepts.
- Lead committees, work groups, and projects related to educational activities.
