Senior Data Engineer

The Senior Data Engineer takes an active part in development and support tasks related to Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data Lake, and BI/analytical solutions, which integrate data from 20 countries and provide support for decision-making. As a member of the EDW Development Team, the Senior Data Engineer will participate in designing and deploying databases, stored procedures, complex queries, and SSIS/automation jobs, developing and maintaining systems to store, organize, and access data. Responsibilities include the development of stored procedures, triggers, and ETL scripts, development of reports within the SSRS and Power BI environments, and performing T-SQL code reviews during key points of the SDLC while enforcing compliance with T-SQL coding standards.

How is their success measured?

Success is measured by a combination of qualitative and quantitative metrics to assess the efficiency and productivity of the Enterprise Data Team Engineers.

• Customer satisfaction: Feedback from internal customers/beneficiaries.
• Quality of code: Reliability, performance efficiency, security, and maintainability of the code developed by the engineer.
• QA Kickback Rate: The number of incidents/issues reported by the Quality Assurance team.

Accountabilities

• The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing database systems, tools, and applications using the Microsoft SQL Server platform.
• Development and support tasks related to different components of the Enterprise Data Warehouse.
• Development and support tasks related to different components of the Data Lake (AWS).
• Development and support tasks related to different ETL/data ingestion components.
• Development and support tasks related to BI, analytics, and reports.

• Proven ability to provide solutions to complex technical problems in a creative and analytic manner.

Experience

• 3+ years of proven practical experience as a Data Warehouse Developer, along with solid knowledge of Data Warehousing and ETL concepts.
• 3+ years of experience and solid knowledge of MS SQL Server.
• Solid knowledge of T-SQL language; skills to write efficient T-SQL code.
• Experience in performance tuning on SQL query/execution plan/data model level.
• Experience with SSIS or any other ETL tool.
• Experience with Power BI, SSRS, or any other BI/reporting tool.
• Experience with the following technologies is considered a plus: Amazon Cloud (S3, EC2, Athena, EMR), Big Data (Spark, Hive, and Hadoop ecosystem), and any of the following programming languages: Java, Scala, Python, C#.
