A Pest Control Operator (PCO) inspects, identifies, and develops plans to eliminate pest infestations, often using chemical treatments, trapping, and exclusion methods. They communicate with clients about pest control strategies and preventative measures. PCOs are responsible for managing pests in various settings, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and protecting public health.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Inspection and Assessment:
    • Inspect properties thoroughly to identify pest presence, types, and severity of infestations.
    • Create customized pest management plans based on the assessment, considering pests, habits, and environment.
  2. Treatment Application:
    • Apply various methods, including chemical treatments (like insecticides), baiting systems, traps, and physical barriers (like sealing cracks and gaps), to eliminate pests.
  3. Communication:
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients about the pest control process, treatment plans, safety precautions, and prevention measures.
  4. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain detailed records of inspections, treatments, and outcomes to monitor progress and ensure compliance with regulations and insurance requirements.
  5. Safety:
    • Follow strict safety protocols when handling chemicals and equipment to protect yourself and others.
  6. Monitoring and Maintenance:
    • Monitor for pest resurgence and implement maintenance measures to prevent future infestations.
Qualifications

Typically, formal qualifications include a Matriculation (Matric) or equivalent or Intermediate level. Basic understanding of pest control techniques is a plus, but training is usually provided by employers.
