The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  • perform routine & specialized laboratory procedures as per Laboratory protocols
  • interpret laboratory reports and communicate with patients explaining their reports
  • communicate with staff at reception and within the laboratory about patient procedures
  • strictly adheres to safety regulations and quality control procedures
  • periodic plasma pheresis/ platelet pheresis (under supervision)
  • periodic rotations to other AKU integrated health care
Requirements

You should have:

  • MBBS, Additional Diploma in relevant field preferred
  • 1-5 years post-MBBS related experience with one year House Job OR 1-3 years' experience in case of additional diploma
  • the ability to understand issues from the patient's perspective
  • the ability to maintain continuous open and consistent communication with faculty, staff, patients and their families
  • the ability to makes straight-forward decisions based on information that is generally clear and adequate, considering the risks and consequences of action and/or decisions
  • the ability to take action to avoid imminent problems
  • the ability to counsel patients and their families at their level of understanding
  • good written communication skills, especially about patient care documentation
