Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
The candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical nutrition care services, including inpatient visitation, patient nutritional assessments, developing individualized nutrition plans, and educating patients and their families about disease-specific nutritional management. The candidate should possess knowledge of clinical nutrition standards and principles, with professional experience in a tertiary care hospital setting. The role requires ensuring proper documentation of nutritional care in line with hospital policies and the ability to operate the Hospital Information System (HI) independently. Flexibility to manage clinical nutrition activities during unusual circumstances and to undertake operational assignments, including on-call duties, is essential. The individual will handle nutrition consultations for inpatients and outpatients and coordinate professionally with medical staff and allied health professionals.
TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conduct visitation, assessment, intervention, and multidisciplinary liaison within 24 hours of patient admission, adhering to credentialing criteria for clinical nutrition and dietetic consultations.
- Prioritize nutrition care for referred patients, assess acuity levels, and complete nutrition assessments.
- Document patient assessments thoroughly and participate in ward rounds with physicians as per the faculty schedule.
- Develop disease-specific nutrition care handouts in consultation with faculty and conduct outpatient multi-specialty nutrition clinics as approved, ensuring clinics are conducted by qualified staff.
- Manage outpatient clinics efficiently, maintaining records and following prescribed tools and systems.
- Ensure inpatients receive a balanced diet according to clinical nutrition standards and address nutritional vulnerabilities.
- Develop and implement nutrition screening tools where necessary, especially for patients at risk of malnutrition or with allergies.
- Supervise and monitor dietetic trainees' daily activities to ensure quality nutritional care.
- Ensure therapeutic and non-therapeutic diets adhere to physician orders, considering patient preferences and allergies.
- Provide disease-specific nutritional education to patients and families.
- Conduct monthly clinical nutrition training sessions for staff and interns and maintain related records.
- Plan and oversee the intern and trainee dietitian programs within approved budgets.
- Coordinate post-meal ward rounds to ensure compliance with physician diet orders.
- Uphold professional and ethical standards as per organizational policies.
- Address patient complaints promptly and ensure patient satisfaction within resource limits.
- Participate in clinical nutrition activities during hospital emergencies and support hospital operations as required.
- Plan and manage inpatients' enteral nutrition and TPN in accordance with physician recommendations.
- Evaluate nutrition supplements thoroughly before patient use, in consultation with relevant departments.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Head of Department.
