  1. Producing sketches, designs, and samples for presentation to customers.
  2. Creating sets of sample designs and liaising with clients, technical, marketing, and buying staff to plan and develop designs accurately.
  3. Interpreting and representing clients' ideas, working out design formulae for a group of samples, and assessing and approving completed items and production standards independently.
  4. Specializing in using software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs to develop a range of designs.
  5. Experimenting with colours, fabrics, and textures, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new design and production techniques, and textile technology.
  6. Developing new design concepts and ensuring project completion on time.
  7. Visiting sites and other sources of ideas for designs.
