We are looking for a Head of Engineering with strong expertise in PHP (Laravel) and Python, andsignificant experience in architecting and scaling backend systems in the fintech sector. This leadershiprole will oversee the entire engineering function, ensuring our systems remain robust, secure, and scalableto support our expanding operations.

You will set the technical vision, manage engineering teams, collaborate with stakeholders across thebusiness, and ensure successful delivery of high-quality software solutions.

  • Define and drive the technical vision and architecture for Kabayan Remit's platform.
  • Oversee the design and development of backend services built with PHP (Laravel) and Python.
  • Ensure high standards in API architecture, security, and system scalability.
  • Lead efforts to optimise MySQL/MongoDB and Redis databases for performance and reliability.
  • Manage integrations with payment gateways and financial institutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Compliance, and Operations teams to align technical solutionswith business goals.
  • Guide and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and continuousimprovement.
  • Establish and enforce secure coding practices and compliance with financial regulations (e.g. PCIDSS, GDPR).
  • Drive DevOps initiatives, improving CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure on AWS.
  • Oversee monitoring, incident management, and system reliability processes.
Requirements

Technical Leadership

  • 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership ormanagement role.
  • Deep expertise in PHP (Laravel) and Python development.
  • Strong experience in designing and scaling RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
  • Advanced knowledge of MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
  • Proven experience with AWS cloud services, infrastructure, and cost optimisation.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern deployment pipelines.
  • Excellent understanding of secure coding and compliance in financial services
Leadership & Management Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value.
  • Experience managing engineering roadmaps and prioritising resources in a fast-paced environment
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience working with payment processing systems.
  • Knowledge of financial transaction security standards (PCI DSS, GDPR).
  • Experience with message queue systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.).
  • Background in fintech, remittance, or financial services platforms
