Community Development Coordinator

About the Role

The Community Development Coordinator will lead and implement regular activities within a Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS). This position requires close collaboration with community stakeholders, staff team, and local partners to ensure the safe and welcoming environment for empowerment opportunities and services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Program Planning:
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to plan and assess the suitability of locations, approaches, and modalities for WGSS implementation.
    • Promote consensus decision-making among community members during activity planning.
    • Develop procurement plans and supply requests in line with program objectives.
  • Capacity Building and Implementation:
    • Implement activities aligned with program plans and the WGSS Toolkit.
    • Promote ownership and solidarity among community members throughout the implementation process.
    • Dedicate attention to the needs of adolescent girls in program activities.
    • Lead group psychosocial support activities and information sessions.
    • Develop and adapt tools and curricula for hosted activities within the WGSS.
    • Orient new visitors and maintain good relations with community members.
    • Implement specific approaches, as relevant (e.g., Women Rise, Girl Shine).
    • Train staff, partners, volunteers, and community members on GBV core concepts, risk mitigation, women's leadership, and other relevant topics.
    • Organize distribution of dignity kits, where necessary.
    • Support community volunteers engaged for GBV outreach, where necessary.
    • Coordinate with GBV Casework Supervisors/GBV Caseworkers to integrate GBV case management services into WGSS, as necessary.
    • Respond with compassion and discretion to individuals who disclose GBV or require individual support; ensure appropriate service referrals.
  • Human Resources:
    • Work with HR to recruit and supervise trainers, facilitators, WGSS support staff, and outreach staff, as needed.
    • Train and support staff, volunteers, and community members contributing to activity leadership.
    • Ensure that staff/volunteers/members leading WGSS activities represent the diversity of community members.
    • Develop strategies to support GBV staff/partners/volunteers, foster teamwork, and promote self-care principles.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Conduct group discussions to understand community needs, interests, and preferences.
    • Analyze feedback from community members and adapt activities accordingly.
    • Track participation data, including secure handling of personally identifiable information.
    • Monitor and document prevention and risk mitigation program activities.
    • Contribute to internal and external reports.
  • Coordination, Advocacy, and Representation:
    • Regularly coordinate with the supervisor, deputy manager, manager, and coordinator, and participate in broader team meetings, as required.
    • Coordinate with community focal points, local partners, and women's networks.
    • Represent WGSS and communicate member feedback related to women's and girls' risks, rights, and needs within the GBV program team and with external partners.
    • Strengthen referrals between WGSS and other services.
    • Promote connections between WGSS and other women's platforms and networks.
    • Promote a survivor-centered approach in all internal and external communication.
    • Represent program goals and GBV standards.
  • Security and Conduct:
    • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies.
    • Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all GBV staff and partners.
    • Exemplify core principles of GBV programming, including respect, non-discrimination, responsible use of power, nonviolence, and promotion of gender equality.
    • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding, and PSEA policies.

Requirements
  • Women's rights/GBV-related experience is essential; relevant academic experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to core principles of GBV programming, including gender equality and survivor-centered support services.
  • Training and facilitation experience.
  • Familiarity with community structures, including government and NGO service providers.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain flexible, and apply experience and guidance to evolving challenges.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and local language requirements.
