Job Description

We are seeking a highly qualified Academic Leader to join our team as Lecturer - Optometry / Orthoptics. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to make a meaningful contribution to the academic excellence of our students.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Meet Performance Targets: Collaborate with the Head of Department to establish and meet annual targets, ensuring academic excellence in teaching and learning.
  2. Teaching and Learning Environment: Work closely with the Dean/Principal to create a high-quality teaching environment that fosters student engagement and promotes academic growth.
  3. Course Delivery: Teach assigned courses, adhering to university standards and faculty workload policies, while continuously developing your own teaching and learning skills.
  4. Innovative Teaching Strategies: Employ innovative methods to facilitate experiential learning, promote student engagement, and encourage critical thinking.
  5. Student Supervision: Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, providing guidance and support to ensure successful outcomes.
  6. Assessment and Feedback: Set, mark, and assess work and examinations, offering constructive feedback to students to enhance their academic performance.
  7. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of students' academic performance for internal evaluation and assessment purposes.
  8. Mentorship: Execute mentoring of 15 to 20 students under the Riphah Mentoring Program, promoting academic growth and development.
  9. Technology Integration: Update data in Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) and other required software as needed, ensuring seamless integration into teaching practices.
  10. Ethical Values: Incorporate Islamic and ethical values into teaching practices, participating in departmental and university committee activities as required.
  11. Content Evaluation: Evaluate teaching content and methods to ensure alignment with RIU's mission and vision, addressing issues related to subordinates and student needs.
  12. Attendance Monitoring: Monitor student attendance in classes, labs, and practicals, ensuring accountability and responsibility.
  13. Research and Publication: Publish research findings or disseminate knowledge through other appropriate media, promoting academic excellence.
  14. Research Leadership: Conduct independent research, acting as principal investigator and project leader, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
  15. Team Management: Act as a line manager, supervising the work of others in research teams, projects, or as PhD supervisor when required.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optometry, Orthoptics, or a related field.
  • PhD in Optometry, Orthoptics, or a related field (desired).
  • Prior experience in academia, research, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) and other educational software.
