Job Title: Environmental Sciences Faculty Member

We are seeking an exceptional candidate for a faculty position in Environmental Sciences. This is a rare opportunity to join our institution and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this critical field.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and curriculum development, research, mentoring and advising students, grant writing and fundraising, publishing and dissemination, and service and collaboration. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Design and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses related to environmental sciences, with a focus on laboratory-based learning. Topics may include environmental chemistry, ecology, microbiology, pollution monitoring, and environmental analysis techniques.
  • Research: Conduct original research in environmental sciences, investigating phenomena, developing new analytical methods, or assessing the impacts of pollutants on ecosystems. Collaboration with other faculty members, students, and external partners is essential.
  • Mentoring and Advising: Guide and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in their academic and research pursuits. Provide support and guidance for their professional development.
  • Grant Writing and Fundraising: Seek external funding to support research endeavors. Write grant proposals to secure funding from government agencies, private foundations, or industry partners. Cultivate relationships with potential donors and stakeholders.
  • Publishing and Dissemination: Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals to advance knowledge in the field and establish reputation as a scholar. Present work at conferences and seminars to share findings with the scientific community.
  • Service and Collaboration: Engage in service activities within the academic institution, such as serving on committees or participating in departmental initiatives. Collaborate with other departments, research centers, and external organizations to enrich research and teaching endeavors.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • PhD in a relevant field (environmental anthropology, geography, biology, chemistry, physics, or cognate discipline)
  • 3-5 years Teaching experience at undergraduate level (including lectures, small group tutorials, course convening)
  • Experience of organizing workshops, seminars, and public talks
  • Publications in international journals relevant for social development studies (commensurate with career status)
  • Experience of working with development practitioners
