The Pharmacy Manager position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a pharmacy, ensuring alignment with legal, ethical, and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise and train pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
    • Schedule shifts and manage staffing levels to ensure optimal customer service and efficient workflow.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching for improved team performance.

Supply Chain Management

  • Oversee medication inventory and ensure proper stocking of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Regularly inspect inventory to identify expired medications and maintain accurate records of drug stock.
  • Source and procure medications as needed while maintaining cost efficiency.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure the pharmacy complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to controlled substances.
  • Maintain accurate records of prescriptions and dispensed medications according to legal requirements.
  • Guarantee the pharmacy operates within established safety standards and quality control protocols.

Patient Engagement

  • Provide guidance and counseling to patients regarding their prescriptions, potential interactions, and usage.
  • Assist with immunization services, health screenings, and other patient care services as applicable.
  • Address patient complaints and resolve issues related to pharmacy services.

Financial Performance

  • Monitor and manage pharmacy finances, controlling costs and optimizing revenue streams.
  • Review pricing to ensure the pharmacy remains competitive while maintaining profit margins.

Collaboration and Information Sharing

  • Foster collaboration with healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to optimize patient care.
  • Communicate with suppliers, insurance providers, and vendors to ensure seamless operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of medications.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure quality standards are met and continuously improve workflow efficiency.

Technical Operations

  • Oversee pharmacy management software and ensure systems are up to date.
  • Verify the accuracy of electronic health records (EHR) and ensure prescription information is correctly processed.

Strategic Planning and Development

  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance the pharmacy's overall performance, customer satisfaction, and service delivery.
  • Lead initiatives to elevate the pharmacy's reputation and expand its services.

Professional Development

  • Stay current on pharmaceutical advancements, new medications, and treatment protocols.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to staff on new pharmaceutical products, regulatory updates, and customer service practices.
