Optometry/Orthoptics Lecturer Job Description

As an Optometry/Orthoptics lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic excellence of our institution. Your key responsibilities include meeting performance indicators assigned by senior faculty members to drive teaching and learning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Meet key performance indicators assigned by senior faculty members to drive teaching and learning initiatives.
  2. Contribute to creating a high-quality teaching environment for students by working towards targets set by the Dean/Principal.
  3. Teach assigned courses as per faculty workload policy, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and student engagement.
  4. Develop and enhance own teaching skills, contributing to the planning of teaching programs that promote academic rigor and student success.
  5. Design and implement innovative teaching strategies and experiential learning during lessons, encouraging critical thinking and rational discourse among students.
  6. Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, providing guidance and mentorship as needed.
  7. Evaluate and assess student work, examinations, and progress, offering constructive feedback for improvement.
  8. Maintain accurate records of student academic performance for internal evaluation purposes.
  9. Act as a mentor to 15-20 students through our mentoring program, promoting personal growth and development.
  10. Update relevant data in virtual learning environments and other required software, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  11. Incorporate Islamic and ethical values into teaching practices, participating in departmental and university committees as required.
  12. Ensure teaching content and methods align with our institution's mission, addressing issues related to subordinates and student needs promptly.
  13. Monitor student attendance in classes, labs, and practicals, implementing measures to improve engagement and participation.
  14. Publish research findings or disseminate them through other media, seeking practical applications and collaborations.
  15. Carry out independent research, act as principal investigator, and lead projects, fostering innovation and academic excellence.
  16. Serve as a line manager, supervising others in research teams and projects, or as a PhD supervisor when required.
Requirements:
  • Relevant qualification in Optometry/Orthoptics.
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills.
  • Ability to design and deliver curriculum materials.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in leading research teams and projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
