Medical Billing Specialist

This is a unique opportunity to work as a medical billing specialist. We are looking for a skilled professional to collaborate with our team in insurance payments, entering charges for surgeries and other services, assisting patients with their accounts and health claims related to follow-up, denials, and appeals.

Main focus is on billing insurance follow up.

  • Verify that proper documentation is occurring in the facility's billing system.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of billing information and posting payments received.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary.
  • Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software.
  • Ensure all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors.
  • Familiarize yourself with proper medical and insurance claim processes.
  • Monitor unpaid claims and follow up or re-bill as needed to ensure timely payment.
  • Assist the lead medical biller and fellow billing staff in submitting accurate claims.
  • Review claims, invoices, sort claims by primary and secondary insurance and access patients in the system to identify necessary attachments.
  • Hold an associate or bachelor's degree in a finance-related field.
  • Possess certification in billing (preferable).
  • Working hours: Monday – Friday.
  • Job timings: 6 pm – 3 am.
Required Skills

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Effective communication skills in English; both oral and written.
  • General knowledge of federal payer program regulations and guidelines.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of communications (verbal, non-verbal, written, listening and visual).
  • A solid understanding of medical billing practices and billing reimbursement.
  • Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and caution when handling sensitive information.
  • A proven working experience in the same industry for at least a year.
  • The ability to accurately perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • A sense of urgency and responsiveness to physicians, location employees, and patients.

Tech Requirements

  • Excellent email transmission and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Internet navigation and research.
  • Microsoft applications; Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record systems or patient management software, Office Ally and aging reports.
