  • We are seeking a seasoned Database Specialist to oversee the development and maintenance of our data storage infrastructure. This critical role is responsible for designing, optimizing, and managing relational and non-relational databases to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, query planning, and indexing. Experience with NoSQL systems like MongoDB and strong SQL skills are also essential. Additionally, they should be familiar with Linux-based deployments, command-line tooling, and configuration.

Key Responsibilities

">
  • Design and implement database schemas for signature storage, matching indexes, telemetry logs, and panel metadata.
  • Administer PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases, including replication, backup, and monitoring.
  • Optimize queries, indexes, and storage strategies for large-scale batch processing jobs.
  • Implement data archiving, partitioning, and retention policies to maintain long-term storage efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to structure ingestion pipelines for minimal DB impact.
  • Ensure integrity, availability, and performance of databases under heavy ingest and transform workloads.
  • Support reporting layers (e.g., exporting clean data to CSVs or dashboards) with stable, well-documented views and interfaces.
  • Monitor database health and proactively address bottlenecks, slow queries, or inconsistencies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in database engineering, administration, or large-scale data systems.
  • Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, query planning, and indexing.
  • Experience with NoSQL systems such as MongoDB, especially for unstructured/log data.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience building views, materialized views, and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based deployments, including command-line tooling and configuration.
  • Ability to design storage-efficient schemas and optimize them for heavy write + analytical read patterns.
  • Understanding of database replication, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.

  • Experience in setting up partitioned, parallelized, or sharded databases.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse modeling (e.g., star/snowflake schemas).
  • Automation of DB maintenance and backups using scripting or infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Comfortable working with data engineers and analysts to design access paths and reporting-ready structures.
