Ophthalmologist

To thrive in this position, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks.

• Initial Assessment
  • You will screen patients and feed data into the system.
  • You will take an unbiased history of all patients, considering their overall health.
• Complete History
  • On the first visit, you will take complete history including past medical history, family history, personal history, drug history, allergies, menstrual and obstetric histories of female patients.
• Physical Examination
  • You will perform a complete physical examination, including general and systemic examinations, as well as neurological examinations.
• Special Emphasis
  • For diabetic patients on their first visit:
    • You will document a complete history in printed form.
    • You will record previous blood glucose monitoring.
    • You will note current treatment.
  • For diabetic patients on follow-up visits:
    • You will document presenting complaints (reason for the visit).
    • You will record SMBG.
    • You will note current treatment with the last prescription as the first page of the file.
    • You will conduct a general physical examination (BP, Pulse, Weight, Height).
    • You will order labs if needed.
  • For diabetic patients on annual review visits:
    • You will document the new form.
    • You will document presenting complaints (reason for the visit).
    • You will conduct a general physical examination (BP, Pulse, Weight, Height).
    • You will perform a foot examination (sensation, pulses and reflexes).
    • You will record SMBG.
    • You will assess visual acuity.
    • You will instill eye drops for fundoscopy.
    • You will order laboratory investigations (especially HbA1C, Creatinine, Urine D/R).
    • You will note current treatment with the last prescription as the first page of the file.
  • For General Medicine/Endocrine Patients:
    • You will document information on the card.
    • You will take a complete history.
    • You will conduct a general physical examination (BP, Pulse, Weight, Height).
    • You will perform a systemic examination (respiratory & cardiovascular, abdomen etc.) more in detail according to patient's complaints.
    • You will perform a foot examination, examine thyroid, hirsutism score, acanthosis nigricans, visual acuity (in relation to patient's complaint).
    • You will order pertinent laboratory investigations.
    • You will note current treatment with the last prescription as the first page of the file.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • You will attend emergency calls, assess and carry out urgent tests and inform registrar/consultant on call.
    • You will admit patients following all protocols through reception.
    • You will keep consultant on call abreast of all admissions from OPD.
    • You will be present with patients undergoing procedures in OPD.
    • You will facilitate arrangements for transfer of patients to Emergency or Ward.
    • You will guide and teach medical students/diploma students and house officers, if posted.
