The Power Division Mechanic plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of hydroelectric plants, power transmission systems, and telephone networks. This position demands exceptional electrical and mechanical skills to design, fabricate, install, test, inspect, repair, and maintain complex equipment.
Required Skills and QualificationsKey Responsibilities Include:
- Assembling, installing, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing equipment in hydroelectric developments, including motors, generators, transformers, storage batteries, cranes, lighting equipment, lubricating systems, pumps, hydraulic turbines, exciters, governors, controls, gates, and related equipment.
- Erecting poles, towers, bus bars, substations, and related equipment.
- Installing, testing, maintaining, replacing, and repairing power transmission facilities such as conductors, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, ground rods, transformers.
- Performing electric and gas welding and cutting.
- Planning and laying out work; reading and interpreting manuals, charts, diagrams, and prints.
- Applying paint, varnish, enamel, etc., to electrical windings and equipment, and working on or near energized facilities. Cleaning electrical equipment. Painting and sandblasting structures.
- Working on or near energized lines.
- Cutting right-of-way and trimming trees.
- Recording and identifying work as required.
- Driving and operating vehicles and equipment.
- Communicating effectively verbally in all circumstances, including emergencies.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs as required.
- Traveling frequently, climbing stairs while carrying tools and parts.
- Climbing ladders and working from ladders throughout the workday, including fixed, extension, and step ladders.
- Working on flood gates with fall protection, often climbing parts of the gates.
- Navigating uneven terrain and working overhead or in tight spaces in various weather conditions.
- Working at heights safely.
