Optometric Educator

As a University Lecturer in Optometry/Orthoptics, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of optometry and orthoptics. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in optometry or orthoptics, with a relevant degree and teaching experience. You will be responsible for teaching assigned courses, developing your own teaching skills, and contributing to the planning of teaching programs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Meet annual targets assigned by the Head of Department (HOD) to ensure high-quality teaching and learning environments for students.
• Work towards setting and achieving appropriate targets as set by the Dean/Principal to secure a high-quality teaching and learning environment.
• Teach assigned courses according to faculty workload policy, employing innovative teaching strategies and facilitating experiential learning.
• Develop and maintain your own teaching and learning skills, contributing to the planning of teaching programs and mentoring 15-20 students through the Riphah Mentoring Program.
• Set, mark, and assess work and examinations, providing constructive feedback to students and maintaining records of their academic performance.
• Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, updating data in Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and other required software as needed.
• Ensure teaching content and methods align with RIU's mission, responding to issues related to subordinates and student needs.
• Supervise and randomly check student attendance in classes, labs, and practicals, promoting a culture of accountability and responsibility.
• Act as a line manager, supervising research teams and projects, and performing additional duties assigned by the Head.

Key Requirements:
• A strong background in optometry or orthoptics, with a relevant degree and teaching experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
• A commitment to lifelong learning, staying up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in teaching and research.
• Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation, with a focus on student-centered learning.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Familiarity with educational technology, including VLE and other software applications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
