As a sales and marketing professional, you will play a key role in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns to promote products, services, or ideas.

This is a varied role that includes planning, advertising, distribution, and research.

You will contribute to the development of marketing strategies, create awareness of and develop the brand, communicate with target audiences, and build customer relationships.

The exact nature of your role will vary depending on the size and sector of the organisation and whether the focus is on selling a product or service or raising awareness of an issue that affects the public.

Key Responsibilities

As a sales and marketing executive, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating awareness of and developing the brand you are marketing
  • Communicating with target audiences and building customer relationships
  • Helping with marketing plans, advertising, direct marketing, and campaigns
  • Supporting the marketing manager in delivering agreed activities
  • Sourcing advertising opportunities and placing adverts in the press or on the radio
  • Working closely with in-house or external creative agencies to design marketing materials such as brochures and adverts
  • Writing and proofreading marketing copy for both online and print campaigns
  • Producing creative content, including videos and blog posts
  • Running social media channels to enhance audience engagement
  • Organising and attending events such as conferences, seminars, receptions, and exhibitions
  • Sourcing and securing sponsorship
  • Arranging the effective distribution of marketing materials
  • Maintaining and updating customer databases
  • Conducting market research, for example using customer questionnaires and focus groups
  • Developing relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external

With experience, your responsibilities will expand to include:

  • Developing and implementing a marketing strategy (often as part of a wider sales and marketing programme)
  • Evaluating and reviewing marketing campaigns, advertising, and SEO to ensure the correct mediums are being used and campaigns are effective
  • Tracking marketing performance and return on investment and preparing weekly or monthly reports for management
  • Monitoring and reporting on competitor activity
  • Leading external agencies, when appropriate, to effectively manage events, press relationships, editorial requests, presentations, promotional materials, and online activities
