Job Title: Senior Healthcare Professional Oversight of Pharmacy Operations 

A senior healthcare professional in a pharmacy is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring all activities align with legal, ethical, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Staff Management:
    • Supervise and train pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff.
    • Schedule shifts and manage staffing levels to ensure optimal customer service and workflow.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to improve team performance.
  • Inventory and Stock Management:
    • Oversee medication inventory and ensure proper stocking of drugs and pharmaceutical supplies.
    • Conduct regular audits to check for expired medications and maintain accurate records of drug inventory.
    • Order and procure medications as necessary while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure the pharmacy complies with all local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to controlled substances.
    • Maintain accurate records of prescriptions and medications dispensed in accordance with legal requirements.
    • Ensure that the pharmacy operates in line with safety standards and quality control protocols.
  • Patient Care:
    • Provide guidance and counseling to patients regarding their prescriptions, potential drug interactions, and usage.
    • Assist in immunization services, health screenings, and other patient care services as applicable.
    • Handle patient complaints and resolve issues related to pharmacy services.
  • Financial Management:
    • Monitor and manage pharmacy budgets, including controlling costs and optimizing revenue streams.
    • Review pricing and ensure that the pharmacy remains competitive in the marketplace while maintaining profit margins.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to optimize patient care.
    • Communicate with suppliers, insurance providers, and vendors to ensure smooth operations.
  • Quality Control:
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of medications.
    • Conduct regular audits of processes to ensure quality standards are met and continuously improve workflow efficiency.
  • Technology and Systems Management:
    • Oversee pharmacy management software and ensure that systems are up to date.
    • Monitor the accuracy of electronic health records (EHR) and ensure that prescription information is correctly processed.
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    • Develop and execute strategies to improve the pharmacy's overall performance, customer satisfaction, and service delivery.
    • Lead initiatives to enhance the pharmacy's reputation and expand its services.
  • Education and Training:
    • Stay up to date on pharmaceutical advancements, new medications, and treatment protocols.
    • Provide ongoing education and training to staff on new pharmaceutical products, regulatory changes, and customer service practices.
