Database Administrator Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Database Server Management: Install, configure, and upgrade database servers and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Database Security and Integrity: Maintain the security and availability of all database resources, including implementing access control, auditing, and encryption.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance and optimize as needed for maximum efficiency.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and restore processes to ensure business continuity.
  • Disaster Recovery: Design and implement disaster recovery solutions to minimize downtime.
  • SQL Query Optimization: Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers to improve database performance.
  • Documentation and Collaboration: Maintain documentation related to database configuration and processes, and collaborate with developers to ensure database design aligns with application requirements.
  • Maintenance and Support: Perform routine maintenance and support of internal databases and systems.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role (2-5 years).
  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools.
  • Experience with one or more database platforms (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding.
  • Knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, and integrity.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.
  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified DBA or Microsoft SQL Server Certification are desirable.

Preferred Skills (Optional):

  • Scripting knowledge (Python, Shell, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD.
  • Experience with database replication and clustering.
  • Exposure to tools like phpMyAdmin, pgAdmin, or SQL Developer.
