Senior Database Migration Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Migration Specialist with a strong background in migrating complex, high-availability Oracle RAC environments to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using PostgreSQL or AlloyDB.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning and execution of database migration from Oracle RAC to PostgreSQL or AlloyDB on GCP, ensuring seamless integration with cloud architectures.
  • Assess existing database environments, identify migration risks, and propose optimal cloud-native solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Design and implement data migration strategies, including schema conversion, data mapping, and transformation, to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cloud architects, application teams, and DevOps, to deliver successful database migrations.
  • Develop and automate migration pipelines using tools such as Database Migration Service (DMS), Dataflow, or custom scripts, to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Ensure performance tuning, high availability, and scalability in the target GCP environment, through thorough testing and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior DBAs and cloud engineers, to foster knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in database administration and migration, with a proven track record of delivering successful database migrations.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle RAC (11g/12c/19c) and a deep understanding of RAC architecture, including clustering and load balancing.
  • Proven experience migrating databases from Oracle to PostgreSQL or AlloyDB in GCP, with a focus on minimizing downtime and maximizing data integrity.
  • Strong SQL/PLSQL skills and experience in schema conversion (Oracle to PostgreSQL/AlloyDB), with a solid understanding of data modeling and normalization principles.
  • Proficiency in using Google Cloud services, including DMS, AlloyDB, Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, and Cloud Storage, to design and implement scalable and secure database solutions.
  • Familiarity with tools like Ora2Pg, pg_dump/pg_restore, GoldenGate, or other relevant migration tools, to streamline database migrations and minimize risks.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native database security, backup, and disaster recovery principles, to ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in high-pressure migration windows, with a focus on resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Google Cloud Certified Professional Database Engineer or Cloud Architect, to demonstrate expertise in designing and implementing cloud-based database solutions.
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, to automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment.
  • Background in scripting (Python, Bash) to support automation and customization of database migration processes.
  • Exposure to multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure) is a plus, but not required.
