Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Learning patient-care under the supervision of Residents and Consultants,
  • Performing initial assessments that include history and physical examination,
  • Ordering labs / radiology in consultation with supervisor,
  • Performing simple procedures like cannulation, ABG sampling, enteterization, NG tube insertion, gastric lavage etc. under supervision,
  • Ordering medication like IV fluids, analgesics, antibiotic etc. under supervision,
  • Writing medical prescriptions,
  • Making daily / morning ward rounds with team, collecting and interpreting data, and gaining experience in patient care management,
  • Performing common procedures (such as I/V lines, Venipuncture, Lumbar puncture etc) with or without supervisor,
  • Discussing cases with supervisor, ordering necessary investigations, and providing necessary medical treatment under supervision,
  • Communicating findings and plans to patients and / or families,
  • Keeping up-to-date legible medical records in a timely fashion,
  • Consulting subspecialty services and communicating findings to relevant supervisors, if needed,
  • Discharging patients with verbal and written discharge summaries / instructions, filling out necessary discharge documents, and arranging take-home supplies for patients,
  • Attending to all patient-related issues/matters, including patient admissions, follow-up of discharged patients, and patient plans for the day,
  • Being available when on-call; carrying pagers and informing teams and ward personnel of numbers when on-call,
  • Presenting patients concisely in a systematic manner, including overnight issues,
  • Coordinating with case managers (if present) in carrying out assignments of particular patients, e.g. dressings,
  • Clerking and carrying out pre-operative work-ups of elective and emergency patients admitted on the floor,
  • Communicating with floor nurses regarding urgent orders,
  • Regularly communicating/update senior residents/consultants regarding new developments in patient conditions,
  • Managing post-operative patients and carrying out their post-op orders,
  • Daily documenting whole days' plans and patients' conditions in systematic fashions in patients' files,
  • Assigning tasks regarding patient care to fellow on-call interns at the end of the day,
  • Being active members of teams in managing ward patients during nights; documenting all events during nights,
  • Responding immediately to all rush calls from floors, irrespective of times,
  • Arranging transfers/shift-outs of patients to different units or hospitals when required.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • MBBS from a PMDC recognized institution,
  • Valid PMDC registration,
  • Valid CNIC/NICOP/Passport.
