Character Animator Job Description

  • We are seeking a skilled Character Animator to create high-end VFX film and episodic productions.

Responsibilities:

  • The Character Animator will work closely with the Animation Lead and Supervisor to produce high-quality animation.
  • This includes animating both primary and secondary characters and elements.
  • The successful candidate will also be responsible for meeting schedules and show deadlines.
  • Ongoing communication with Production and Lead regarding schedules and deadlines is essential.
  • Supporting the Lead with the mentoring and training of more junior artists is also required.
  • Working efficiently as part of a team, or independently, to complete assigned shots.
  • Submitting shots for review and following through with notes and feedback if required.

Requirements:

">
  • Prior experience in a similar role is necessary.
  • A thorough understanding of Maya is required.
  • An understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form is essential.
  • An understanding of rigs and typical rigging set-ups, animation pipelines, and transferring data between tools is also required.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • A demonstrable commitment to creative collaboration within a team and with other departments is also required.

Job Specifications:

  • Previous experience in character animation.
  • Knowledge of human and animal anatomy, as well as life drawing skills.
  • Familiarity with Mel/Python scripting.
  • Understanding of modeling, rigging, and animation principles.
