Network Engineer Role Overview:

A Network Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) to ensure high availability and performance of critical business applications. Key responsibilities include designing and deploying functional networks, configuring and installing software and hardware, monitoring network performance, and resolving network issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Network Design and Deployment: Design and deploy functional networks, including LAN, WLAN, WAN, and VPN.
  2. Network Configuration and Installation: Configure and install software, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  3. Network Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  4. Network Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, outages, and bottlenecks.
  5. Network Maintenance and Upgrades: Perform network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations.
  6. Collaboration with Network Architects: Collaborate with network architects to optimize system performance.
  7. Network Security: Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access.
  8. Application Performance Monitoring: Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
  9. Documentation: Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
  10. Level-2/3 Support: Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
  11. Vendor Liaison: Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
Requirements:Education & Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA) preferred
Experience:
  • [2–5+] years of proven experience in a network engineering role
  • Hands-on experience with network administration, configuration, and troubleshooting
Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, TCP/IP)
  • Experience with firewall configurations (e.g., Cisco ASA, Fortinet, Palo Alto)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG)
  • Understanding of network security principles and practices
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) is a plus
  • Cloud networking experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Working Conditions:
  • On-site work with occasional travel to remote offices or data centers
  • May require after-hours or weekend work for maintenance and emergency troubleshooting
