Key Roles and Responsibilities

As a skilled Medical Coder, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses. This involves working closely with healthcare providers and billing teams to ensure accurate and timely submissions of claims.

Job Summary
  • Extract relevant information from patient records to assign the correct codes.
  • Verify the presence of all necessary information in patient documents, contacting healthcare staff if required.
  • Utilize coding systems such as CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA to assign proper codes for procedures, services, diagnoses, and anesthesia.
  • Assign APC and DRG codes to ensure correct billing for outpatient and inpatient services.
  • Check documents for accuracy, grammar, and spelling to maintain professional standards.
  • Perform chart audits to verify the application of correct codes and ensure accuracy in billing.
  • Provide training and support to physicians and staff on proper coding practices and procedures.
  • Report technical issues related to coding software or equipment to your supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with legal guidelines and internal policies to prevent errors and ensure proper reimbursement.
