The position of Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine presents an exceptional opportunity to lead a prestigious department known for excellence in patient care, research, and education.

• Clinical Excellence:
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency care;
  • Sustain a culture of quality management within the division, including practice guidelines and audits;
  • Support the development of new academic services and initiatives that contribute to financial sustainability;
  • Establish effective risk management principles and a patient satisfaction feedback evaluation system;
  • Foster good relations with community physicians and other organizations in the community;
  • Attend key hospital committees as appropriate.
• Administration and Advocacy:
  • Develop and enhance departmental clinical, educational, and research activities, aligned with the visions and plans of the University and the Medical College;
  • Oversee all aspects of departmental administration, including space, finances, support, and mentoring of faculty and trainees;
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating institutional citizenship through participation in governance and committee activities;
  • Develop strategic plans and directions that support the mission of the faculty and the University;
  • Ensure adherence to University policies within the department and promote awareness among its members;
  • Represent departmental interests and build partnerships at various levels, including government, affiliated teaching hospitals, research institutes, and centers;
  • Prepare the annual departmental budget proposal and ensure responsible expenditure of allocated funds;
  • Be a leading advocate for the department in University affairs.
• Educational Strategy and Support:
  • Provide leadership in curriculum planning, development, and innovation at undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education levels;
  • Develop academic and clinical plans for faculty and present them to the Dean after consultation with relevant stakeholders;
  • Ensure the educational quality of University-affiliated students within the department;
  • In collaboration with Associate Deans, establish and maintain standards for the training of residents, interns, fellows, and other learners.
• Human Resource Planning:
  • Monitor performance of faculty and staff in academic areas and hospital units under departmental jurisdiction;
  • Maintain faculty and staff quality by protecting their interests and rights, and supporting their professional development;
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and manage faculty appointments, re-appointments, promotions, and exits according to University policies and procedures;
  • Lead in career progression, equity, and creating a safe and respectful work environment;
  • Participate in disciplinary actions or terminations of jointly appointed physicians as per University regulations;
  • Supervise non-academic staff, providing career development guidance and overall responsibility for Human Resources management.
• Research:
  • Foster a curiosity-driven research environment with goals of knowledge creation, transfer, capacity building, and training of graduate students and young investigators;
  • Raise awareness about research opportunities and encourage current faculty members and students to participate in studies;
  • Pursue ongoing scholarly activities, attending conferences, scientific meetings, and publishing in relevant journals;
  • Oversee the conduct of research by faculty members, ensuring adherence to ethical and professional standards.
