We are seeking a highly accomplished and passionate individual to join our Database Performance and Operability team as a Staff Cloud Database Engineer.

This role involves performing various database-related activities, including:

  • Providing expert guidance on NoSQL databases
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the NoSQL space
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with engineering leads across distributed teams to collaborate on initiatives
  • Reviewing data models created by application teams
  • Managing Cassandra and Scylla clusters with a focus on capacity management, cost optimization, high availability, and performance
  • Collaborating with large database clusters handling 1M+ IOPS in aggregate
  • Creating automations to reduce toil and streamline processes
  • Designing monitoring and alerting systems
  • Establishing backup and restore mechanisms
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to nodes, table data, high load, connectivity issues from clients, etc.
Key Responsibilities
  • Expertise in installation, configuration, upgrades, OS patching, certificate management, and scaling (out/in)
  • Experience setting up backup and restore mechanisms with short RTO and RPO objectives
  • Proficiency in infrastructure automation and scripting using Terraform, Python, or Bash
  • Experience working with AWS, with AWS certification preferred
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog, etc.
  • Plus: experience with managed Cassandra solutions (InstaClustr, Datastax Astra) and cloud-native distributed databases (e.g., TiDB, CockroachDB)
Requirements
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in SQL and NoSQL databases
  • In-depth understanding of Cassandra and Scylla architecture, storage, replication, schema design, system tables, logs, DB processes, tools, and CQL
  • Experience with MySQL and/or Postgres databases
  • Ability to mentor, develop talent, and drive technical excellence
  • Excellent communication skills
