Structural Design Expert

About the Role:

The Structural Design Expert plays a pivotal role in ensuring that buildings, infrastructure projects, and other structures are designed and constructed with safety and structural integrity in mind. This expert works closely with architects, contractors, and other engineers to develop plans and specifications, conduct feasibility studies, and perform structural calculations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site assessments and surveys to gather information about terrain, soil conditions, and environmental factors.
  • Analyze data to inform design decisions and address potential challenges during construction.
  • Perform calculations to determine structural integrity of designs, ensuring materials and components will perform as expected under various load conditions.
  • Evaluate compliance of designs with local, regional, and national building codes and safety standards.
  • Identify potential risks (e.g., environmental impact, soil stability, or design flaws) and propose mitigations.
  • Create detailed designs for infrastructure projects like high-rise buildings, steel structures, and pre-engineered building sheds.
  • Succeed in delivering large-scale projects by working within established program management plans; provide required outcomes by coordinating activities of contractors and acting as primary point of contact.
  • Provide technical input, formulate, review, and address design inputs related to civil and structural packages of projects during development, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement through identifying stakeholders' needs and concerns and reacting to these by arranging meetings and drafting supporting materials.
  • Explain action plans to support team members in their understanding of what needs to be done and how this relates to the broader business plan and organization's strategy, mission, and vision.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers and supervisory staff.
  • Responsible for own and others' safety at all times by fully adhering to, following, and maintaining all applicable rules, regulations, and standards; participate as needed in safety audits and incident investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Structural Engineering from a reputable institution; minimum 10-12 years' experience in engineering design of shallow and deep foundation, high-rise buildings, steel structures, PEB sheds, and other structural members.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM, ACI, AISC, Building Codes, and other Civil Engineering Standards.
  • Proficiency in analyzing forces, stresses, and strains on structures, and designing solutions using materials like concrete and steel.
  • Robust understanding of international procedures of project phases, engineering phases, bidding procedures, procurement processes, construction requirements, and up-to-date best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental Regulations.
  • Strong drafting and written communication skills, fluent in English language.
  • Registration with Pakistan Engineering Council as Professional Engineer
