Backend API Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Backend API Engineer to lead our data modernization efforts for a global retail client. This role will focus on building secure backend APIs and data integration layers, enabling direct distributor data submissions and driving automated reporting and analytics.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead multidimensional projects involving backend API development, secure data handling, and cloud integration.
  • Develop secure, scalable backend services using FastAPI or Flask with strong focus on file validation and authentication.
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs for file upload, schema validation, and real-time tracking.
  • Implement secure access controls and integrate with identity providers.
  • Integrate backend services with cloud storage, big data processing, and data warehousing solutions.
  • Participate in design best practices and conduct detailed code reviews.
  • Facilitate cross-functional debugging, root cause analysis, and production support when needed.
  • Collaborate with front-end, DevOps, and QA engineers to ensure end-to-end delivery of platform components.
  • Contribute to infrastructure provisioning and CI/CD pipeline automation using version control systems.
  • Ensure operational excellence through observability, alerting, and performance tuning.
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Python with production experience in FastAPI or Flask frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, especially storage, compute, and identity management.
  • Experience building and securing APIs with authentication and authorization protocols.
  • Familiarity with big data processing and data warehousing solutions.
  • Knowledge of data integration pipelines and business rule enforcement.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally using version control systems.
  • Solid understanding of containerized deployments; experience with orchestration tools is a plus.
  • Strong SQL skills and knowledge of relational data modeling and transformation.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and security best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in distributed teams.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend/API development preferably in data or cloud-heavy enterprise environments.
