Cloud Professional Job Description

The Cloud Engineer role is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing cloud-based infrastructure on AWS and Azure.

This position ensures the security, scalability, and optimization of cloud resources while implementing best practices for governance, networking, automation, and cost management.

• Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based infrastructure: Ensure efficient operation of cloud resources, utilizing best practices for security, scalability, and cost management on AWS and Azure.
• Manage cloud operations: Handle patch management, virtual machines, storage, Azure SQL Database, DNS, AVD, capacity reporting, and other critical tasks to maintain a stable cloud environment.
• Design and implement high-availability architectures: Create HA cloud architectures across multiple regions to ensure business continuity and minimize downtime.
• Manage multi-account cloud environments: Govern cloud accounts using AWS Organizations and Azure Management Groups to ensure compliance and consistency.
• Automate cloud account setup and governance: Utilize AWS Control Tower and Azure Blueprints to automate account setup and enforce governance policies.
• Design secure and scalable cloud landing zones: Implement secure and scalable cloud landing zones that meet organizational requirements.
• Enforce organizational policies and compliance: Use AWS Config and Azure Policy to enforce tagging strategies and compliance with organizational policies.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines: Utilize GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and Jenkins to establish efficient CI/CD pipelines.
• Conduct Well-Architected Reviews: Perform Well-Architected Reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices.
• Optimize cloud costs: Utilize cost allocation tags, reserved instances, and billing management to optimize cloud costs.
• Manage cloud networking: Configure VPCs, subnets, CIDR segmentation, Transit Gateway, and other networking components to ensure secure and efficient communication between cloud resources.
• Establish dedicated network connections: Set up dedicated network connections via Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, or IPSec Tunnels to enhance connectivity and security.
• Design hybrid cloud network architectures: Integrate on-premises and cloud environments to create seamless hybrid cloud networks.
• Implement cost-saving strategies: Utilize rightsizing, auto-scaling, workload scheduling, and other strategies to reduce cloud costs.
• Utilize security tools: Leverage AWS Security Hub and Azure Security Centre to enforce security policies and detect potential threats.
• Automate infrastructure: Utilize Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Bicep, or Azure ARM Templates to automate infrastructure deployment and management.
• Implement microservices architecture: Design and implement microservices architecture patterns to improve application scalability and fault tolerance.
• Collaborate with teams and stakeholders: Work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to communicate technical information and drive project success.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues: Identify and resolve cloud-related issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
• Manage disaster recovery and backup solutions: Utilize native cloud services to implement robust disaster recovery and backup solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field: Possess a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field to ensure a strong foundation in programming principles and software development.

Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering: Possess a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a cloud engineering role to demonstrate expertise in cloud infrastructure design, deployment, and management.

Skills

• Expertise in AWS and Azure cloud platforms: Have in-depth knowledge of AWS and Azure cloud platforms, including their features, services, and best practices.
• Strong knowledge of multi-account governance, automation, and security: Possess a strong understanding of multi-account governance, automation, and security concepts in cloud environments.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation: Have hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation tools like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and Jenkins.
• Proficiency in cloud cost optimization strategies: Be proficient in cloud cost optimization strategies, including cost allocation tags, reserved instances, and billing management.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking and hybrid cloud architectures: Possess a strong understanding of cloud networking and hybrid cloud architectures, including VPCs, subnets, CIDR segmentation, and Transit Gateway.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools: Have hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Bicep, or Azure ARM Templates to automate infrastructure deployment and management.
