Collecting Blood Samples with Care

The role of a Phlebotomy Technician involves collecting blood samples from patients and preparing them for laboratory testing. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear explanations to patients about procedures, ensuring their comfort and understanding throughout the process.
  • Offering reassurance and support to anxious patients, helping them feel at ease during the sampling process.
  • Taking vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates, as part of the patient assessment.
  • Collecting blood samples using sterile equipment, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Applying dressings after blood collection, ensuring proper wound care and minimizing discomfort.
  • Dispatching blood, urine, or fecal samples to the laboratory for analysis, accurately recording the sample details.
  • Maintaining the sterility of equipment and workspace, adhering to strict quality control measures to prevent contamination.
  • Updating patient medical records with accurate information, providing a comprehensive view of the patient's health status.
