Position Overview
The Medical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the overall clinical and administrative operations of the hospital. The role ensures high-quality patient care, compliance with healthcare standards, and smooth coordination among medical, paramedical, and administrative departments. The Medical Superintendent serves as the key authority for hospital management, clinical governance, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hospital Administration & Operations
- Oversee day-to-day hospital operations and ensure smooth service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with PMDC/PMC regulations, healthcare laws, and licensing requirements.
- Develop, implement, and monitor hospital policies, SOPs, and protocols.
- Supervise clinical workflows, patient care standards, and emergency response systems.
2. Clinical Governance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure the provision of safe, ethical, and high-quality medical services.
- Monitor medical audits, clinical documentation, and patient record systems.
- Implement quality assurance programs and infection control standards.
- Review critical cases, manage clinical risks, and improve patient outcomes.
3. Staff Management & Leadership
- Lead and supervise medical officers, consultants, nurses, and support teams.
- Conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and staff development.
- Coordinate with HR for recruitment, training, and manpower planning.
- Promote a positive working environment and ensure high staff morale.
4. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with all hospital departments, including administrative, nursing, and diagnostic units.
- Serve as the primary liaison between hospital management, board members, and clinical teams.
- Facilitate internal meetings, emergency briefings, and departmental coordination.
5. Resource & Facility Management
- Manage hospital resources, including medical equipment, infrastructure, and supplies.
- Oversee budget planning, cost control, and efficient utilization of resources.
- Ensure timely maintenance of hospital facilities, equipment, and machinery.
6. Patient Care & Public Relations
- Address patient grievances, feedback, and ensure a patient-centered care environment.
- Maintain positive relations with community stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure ethical medical practices, confidentiality, and compliance with patient rights.
Educational Qualifications
- MBBS degree from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid PMDC/PMC registration.
- Preferred: Postgraduate qualification in Hospital Management, Public Health, or Healthcare Administration (MPH, MHA, MBA-HRM).
Professional Experience
- 5–10 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting.
- 3–5 years of administrative or supervisory experience in hospital management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary medical teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of clinical workflows, hospital operations, and healthcare regulations.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in medical auditing, reporting, and quality management systems.
