About Us:

We're a software service startup building immersive VR applications. Currently, we need an experienced Unity developer to enhance a 3D Earth/planet model inside a VR app, focusing on visual fidelity, custom shaders, atmospheric effects, and smooth zoom transitions optimized for Oculus VR.

Role Overview:

You will work on a separate Unity scene, creating high-quality visual effects including horizon glow, photorealistic textures, dynamic geographic accuracy, and seamless cloud/fog transitions between stylized Earth and Google Earth imagery. Deliverables will be packaged for easy integration into the main project.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a subtle atmospheric halo/horizon blur that blends smoothly into the skybox at all zoom levels.
  • Apply stylized, photorealistic textures for oceans, continents, and clouds on the zoomed-out Earth.
  • Ensure dynamic geographical accuracy as the globe rotates.
  • Create cloud/fog layers to soften transitions between stylized Earth and real-world imagery on zoom.
  • Optimize all visual effects for VR performance.
  • Deliver clean, organized Unity packages with all assets, shaders, materials, and scripts.
  • Collaborate remotely and provide regular progress updates.

Requirements:

  • Proven Unity experience with VR projects (Oculus preferred).
  • Strong skills in custom shader programming (HLSL or Shader Graph).
  • Experience with atmospheric effects, skybox blending, and planet rendering.
  • Ability to optimize for VR and deliver polished visual fidelity.
  • Good communication and ability to work independently.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Google Earth API or geospatial data.
  • Previous work on VR Earth visualizations or astronomy simulations.
