Position Overview:
Job Summary:
The Chemist will be responsible for performing chemical analysis, quality control, and monitoring of petroleum products stored at the oil storage terminal. The role ensures compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies. The Chemist will also support blending operations, product integrity verification, and documentation for regulatory and commercial purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analysis of petroleum products (e.g., diesel, petrol, kerosene, furnace oil, etc.) as per ASTM/IP/API standards.
- Conduct sampling, testing, and inspection of incoming and outgoing oil products to ensure they meet required specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of all test results and generate certificates of analysis (CoA).
- Ensure quality assurance through calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments (GC, flash point tester, distillation unit, etc.).
- Support blending operations by calculating and confirming proper ratios to meet product specifications.
- Monitor and control additive dosing for product enhancement.
- Identify product contamination, off-spec materials, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with operations and logistics teams during tank filling, draining, and transfers.
- Implement and maintain ISO, API, or other relevant quality management systems.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
- Prepare and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and laboratory inventory.
- Support internal and external audits.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
Experience:
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in a petroleum laboratory, refinery, or oil storage terminal.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in laboratory testing procedures for petroleum products.
- Knowledge of ASTM, IP, and API test methods.
- Familiarity with laboratory instruments and their calibration.
- Understanding of terminal operations and product handling processes.
Soft Skills:
- Attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
- Field and laboratory-based work in an oil storage terminal.
- May require working in shifts, weekends, and emergencies.
- Use of PPE and adherence to strict safety protocols is mandatory.
