The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing care to patients while adhering to compliance standards. This candidate should be able to recognize patient needs and prioritize those needs with the needs outlined by physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Antenatal Care in IPD:
- Monitor high-risk pregnancies and provide continuous care and support to women admitted to the hospital with complications or for medical supervision during pregnancy.
- Perform assessments including vital signs, fetal heart rate monitoring, urine tests, and blood pressure checks to track the health of the mother and baby.
- Collaborate with obstetricians to manage any medical interventions or required treatments, ensuring that protocols are followed.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to pregnant women admitted for monitoring, reassuring them and offering coping strategies.
2. Labor and Delivery:
- Assist in managing labor and delivery ensuring the safe and timely delivery of babies.
- Provide pain management options, including advice on natural methods and, when appropriate, administering medications as per medical orders.
- Assist with normal deliveries, performing tasks such as delivering the baby, cutting the cord, and providing immediate neonatal care.
- Identify complications in labor or delivery, promptly notify obstetricians, and take necessary actions (e.g., administering medications, preparing for caesarean sections).
- Ensure hygiene and safety protocols are followed in the labor and delivery process.
3. Postnatal Care:
- Provide postnatal care to mothers and newborns immediately after delivery, monitoring for any complications (e.g., postpartum hemorrhage, infection, or infant distress).
- Support breastfeeding initiation and educate mothers on correct breastfeeding techniques, lactation issues, and infant feeding.
- Monitor recovery from delivery, assessing vital signs, uterine involution, and overall maternal health, making referrals as necessary.
- Administer necessary medications or treatments as prescribed by physicians (e.g., pain relief, antibiotics).
- Provide counseling on family planning, newborn care, and health maintenance.
4. Documentation and Reporting:
- Document all patient information accurately in patient records, including prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care data.
- Update and maintain patient charts in real time to reflect the mother's and baby's health status.
- Report significant changes or concerns to the senior healthcare team for intervention.
- Prepare reports for the relevant hospital departments regarding maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
5. Infection Control and Safety:
- Follow infection control protocols strictly in the hospital setting, ensuring a sterile and safe environment during labor and delivery.
- Ensure cleanliness in patient rooms, delivery suites, and surrounding areas to prevent the spread of infection.
- Promote hygiene practices for both the mother and newborn to reduce the risk of infections.
6. Emergency and Critical Care:
- Recognize signs of maternal and neonatal emergencies, such as preeclampsia, eclampsia, hemorrhage, or neonatal resuscitation, and take immediate action.
- Assist in emergency procedures (e.g., cesarean section, postpartum care, or neonatal resuscitation) in collaboration with the medical team.
- Provide life-saving measures until more advanced care can be administered in critical situations.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Midwife: Diploma or degree in Midwifery or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- LHV: Diploma in Lady Health Visiting or equivalent certification.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in midwifery or a related field.
- Experience in handling deliveries and postnatal care within a healthcare facility is required.
- Registration:
- Registered with the relevant health authority (e.g., Nursing Council or Midwifery Association).
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred).
- Additional neonatal resuscitation or emergency obstetric care training is a plus.
