ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: These jobs are found in WFP warehouses. Job holders report to the Logistics Officer/Associate or the designate. Job holders are exposed to all phases of the warehouse operations and work with minimum supervision. They may provide supervision and on-the-job training to other warehouse staff.
JOB PURPOSE: To ensure effective receipt, dispatch, storage, and verification of commodities, in compliance with WFP warehouse standards. The Storekeeper plays a key role in maintaining inventory accuracy, safeguarding commodities, and optimizing warehouse operations to minimize losses and ensure quality control.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
Commodity Receipt and Dispatch:Supervise the receipt and dispatch of food and non-food commodities, including transshipments (e.g., truck-to-truck operations), ensuring accurate physical counts and quality verification against official documentation such as waybills and delivery notes. Ensure all movements are properly recorded and discrepancies are immediately addressed.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:Prepare, verify, and sign off on warehouse and transport documents. Maintain secure, organized, and up-to-date records of all warehouse transactions to support timely and accurate reporting in line with WFP corporate systems and audit requirements.
Inventory Management and Reconciliation:Conduct daily inventory reconciliations and support periodic stock counts. Ensure that internal control mechanisms are followed to maintain inventory accuracy and prevent losses or mismanagement.
Quality Assurance and Loss Investigation:Perform routine inspections of commodities to assess quantity and quality. Identify and analyze discrepancies, damages, or losses, and prepare detailed warehouse loss reports with recommended corrective actions for management review.
Commodity Safeguarding and Compliance:Implement standard preventive measures to protect commodities from spoilage, contamination, theft, or damage. Ensure all storage and handling practices comply with WFP procedures and supervisor authorizations.
Warehouse Maintenance and Space Optimization:Monitor the physical condition of the warehouse, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and optimal space utilization. Organize commodities systematically to facilitate efficient access, movement, and inventory control.
Staff Supervision and Capacity Building:Provide guidance, supervision, and on-the-job training to warehouse staff. Promote adherence to operational standards and contribute to team development and performance improvement.
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in warehouse operations, logistic or inventory management.
- Experience handling food and non-food items (NFIs).
- Familiarity with logistics databases and invoice processing.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
Language:
Fluency in Urdu and English (oral and written) is required.
