Role Description
The Cotton Trader
plays a vital role in monitoring, analysing, and executing cotton-related trade activities. This role combines
market research
,
data analysis
, and
client relationship management
to support FMI's trading operations. The trader is responsible for providing actionable insights, maintaining data integrity, and assisting in trade execution to ensure profitable and compliant transactions across domestic and international markets.
Key Responsibilities
· Market Research & Analysis:
· Track and analyse domestic and international cotton markets, including production forecasts, demand–supply trends, and policy changes.
· News & Market Reporting:
· Prepare and present daily/weekly market summaries highlighting price movements, trade flows, and key market opportunities or risks.
· Data Management & Validation:
· Clean, verify, and update cotton-related datasets to maintain consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company standards.
· Trading Support:
· Identify market opportunities, assist in trade execution, deal structuring, and evaluate risks while coordinating with brokers and suppliers.
· Client & Relationship Management:
· Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring reliable communication and service delivery.
· Cross-Functional Exposure:
· Engage in rotational assignments across research, operations, and trading before specialization in a dedicated trading portfolio.
Skills & Competencies
· Technical Skills:
Market analysis, data analytics, risk management, and reporting.
· Analytical Skills:
Ability to interpret trends and forecast pricing behaviours.
· Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication with negotiation capability.
· Digital Proficiency:
Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charts), PowerPoint, Google Sheets, and CRM tools.
· Soft Skills:
Attention to detail, adaptability, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in
Agribusiness
,
Agribusiness Management
,
Economics
, or a related field.
· Experience:
0–3 years (fresh graduates with strong market awareness may also apply).
· Knowledge of
cotton supply chains
,
textile industry dynamics
, and
macroeconomic factors
is preferred.
