Role Summary
Starseed Montessori is seeking an experienced and passionate Early Childhood Teacher to serve as our Lead Montessori Teacher. This senior leadership position combines teaching excellence with administrative responsibilities. The Lead Montessori Teacher will champion the Montessori philosophy while guiding children's academic, emotional, and social growth. They will also help shape curriculum, mentor staff, and ensure that Starseed maintains the highest standards of early childhood education.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum Leadership
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive, well-rounded Montessori curriculum aligned with educational standards and Starseed's philosophy.
- Act as a facilitator of powerful, inquiry-based learning experiences that allow children to lead with curiosity.
- Integrate multiple educational philosophies where beneficial, while maintaining a strong Montessori foundation.
- Observe and assess student progress, ensuring each child's individual learning journey is supported.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and support classroom teachers and assistants through coaching, modeling, and professional development.
- Lead by example in embodying Montessori values of respect, independence, and holistic development.
- Foster a collaborative, nurturing, and professional teaching culture.
Administration & Operations
- Assist the Principal and Executive Director with administrative responsibilities, including staff scheduling, resource planning, and compliance with educational standards.
- Liaise with parents and caregivers to build strong partnerships and provide regular communication on children's development.
- Participate in admissions processes, open houses, and parent engagement events.
- Oversee classroom environments to ensure they are safe, orderly, and well-prepared.
Community & Cultural Stewardship
- Uphold and represent Starseed's ethos of creativity, independence, and respect for the child.
- Engage in community outreach and support the development of afternoon clubs, workshops, and special events.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Master's preferred).
- AMI/AMS Montessori certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of classroom teaching experience in a Montessori setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or mentoring role.
- Deep knowledge of Montessori pedagogy and familiarity with other progressive educational approaches.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills with parents, staff, and children.
- Organised, proactive, and able to balance teaching with administrative duties.
