Senior Technical Writer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced technical writer to create comprehensive documentation for our custom-built software and/or hardware projects.

The software is mostly Laravel-based, Python and GoLang.

If you have a knack for how to bridge the gap between technical implementation and user-friendly documentation, this is a job for you

We are an ISO 9001 and ISO 27000 certified organisation, which means that documentation quality needs to comply with these standards.

Key Responsibilities

Document the architecture, functionality, and workflows of both front-end and back-end components of software systems

Create detailed technical documentation for developers, including API references, database schemas, code structures

Develop user guides and how-to documents for programmers and administrators

Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) that align with ISO 9001 quality management principles for updates, and changes to the system, or maintenance tasks

Create security and information management documentation, aligned with ISO 27000 standards

Closely collaborate with developers and other stakeholders to understand system functionality and requirements

Organize and structure documentation for easy navigation and maintenance on a centralised knowledge management system

Review and edit existing documentation for accuracy, clarity, and consistency

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills:

Proven experience documenting web applications and content management systems

Strong understanding of PHP and the Laravel framework or comparable (e.g., Python, goLang)

Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

Experience with version control systems (Gitlab)

Ability to read and interpret code to create accurate technical documentation

Documentation Expertise:

3+ years of professional technical writing experience

Portfolio demonstrating both technical and end-user documentation

Excellent written communication skills in English

Experience with documentation tools and Markdown syntax

Professional Attributes:

Self-motivated and able to work independently

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience documenting modern Laravel/PHP applications or similar

Certification or formal training in ISO 9001 and/or ISO 27001

Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management principles

Familiarity with ISO 27000 series information security standards

Experience creating documentation that supports compliance requirements

Experience with documentation generators (PHPDoc, Swagger/OpenAPI, etc.)

Background in software development or web development

Familiarity with Agile development methodologies

Experience with diagramming tools , Markmind, etc.)

Project Details

Duration: 3 months+

Commitment: hrs/day

Work Arrangement: 5 Days in a week

User guides for CMS front-end interface and features

Administrator handbook covering system configuration and management

How-to guides for common website tasks and workflows

API documentation and developer resources

Documentation style guide for future updates

About This Opportunity

This role offers the chance to create a comprehensive documentation suite from the ground up.

You'll have the autonomy to fill the structure of the documentation system and organise the documentation while working closely with a technical team.
