Safety Officer

1.0 Purpose of the Job:
To provide support in developing and enforcing health, safety and environmental activities at terminal through effective monitoring and controlling of hazards.

2.0 Dimensions of the Job:
Keep effective vigilance inside the entire area of the terminal in order to safeguard workers, work environment and equipment.

3.0 Principal Accountabilities:

• Carry out routine inspections of terminal areas in order to ensure the HSE compliance, check PPE compliance and Safe Working Practices inside the yards.
• Ensure the readiness of Fire Fighting Systems while taking necessary actions under the guidance of seniors.
• Ensure the adequacy of Emergency Exits.
• Report any incident and participate in the investigation process.
• Participate in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment activities.
• Participate in Environmental Impact Assessment process.
• Issue on-site work permits to the concerned for the assigned job while verifying the compliance of all the HSE-related requirements.
• Monitor and maintain the Life Buoys available at wharf side.
• Participate in routine inspection of Fire Fighting Apparatus available at various locations of the terminal.
• Participate in various HSE drills such as Evacuation Drill, Life Buoy Drill, Spill Drill, etc.
• Participate in the testing, inspection, monitoring and maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems installed at different terminal areas.
• Participate in the testing of Fire Hydrant Systems.
• Provide support in monitoring as well as maintenance of first aid boxes, first aid items, etc.
• Provide basic first aid, whenever required.
• Deliver on-site "Safety Talks".
• Participate in various IMS related activities.
• Participate in different QHSE related trainings.
• Participate in environmental monitoring activities such as emission testing, etc. and involve in drinking water testing also.
• Identify any HSE related issues and report the same to the senior(s).
• Intervene and record HSE violations, if observed.
• Monitor the hygienic conditions of the terminal areas and respond.
• Monitor / execute any assigned HSE related project-based activities and coordinate with other team members and provide them required support regarding any QHSE related issues.
• Assist department's seniors regarding the accomplishment of certain QHSE related tasks.

Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the seniors.

General Accountabilities:

• To undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with company guidelines.
• Carry out any job-related tasks as required by the seniors.

6.0 Knowledge Skills and Experience:

• Education: Bachelors
• Experience: Minimum 1 year in shipping and port industry.
• Skills & Abilities: Computer literate and able to use standard software such as Ms. Office. Have the ability to understand, explain and be conversant. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
