Introduction

The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has ten community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to its research projects. This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  1. Negotiating with the University's various departments to ensure the timely completion of the grant checklist process.
  2. Providing advice and guidance regarding sponsored projects administration to the Principal Investigator (PI).
  3. Acting as a liaison between the PI and the Office of Research and Graduate Studies to resolve pressing concerns and meet submission deadlines.
  4. Conducting regular sessions for the PI and senior research staff on the dynamics and updates in due diligence processes.
  5. Reviewing proposals in light of institutional and granting agency requirements.
  6. Managing a high volume of proposals and subawards, many with significant complexity, liaising with the legal department as needed.
  7. Keeping abreast of developments in research and grants administration, such as CFR, AFR, etc.
  8. Assisting in resolving modifications issues, including contacting funding agencies.
  9. Reviewing specific terms and conditions regarding the allowability of expenses and auditing subcontracts for proper funding allocation.
  10. Ensuring each project concludes with a closeout process, completing all work, submitting required reports, and resolving financial matters.
  11. Ensuring all active projects have valid ERCs, which may involve sending regular progress reports.
  12. Guiding faculty on informing ERC about proposal changes and keeping ERC updated.
  13. Timely submission of new applications or exemptions to the Departmental Research Committee and subsequently to ERC.
  14. Coordinating with other departments to ensure research grants comply with regulatory requirements.
Requirements

You should have:

  • A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Science, or equivalent.
  • Certification in research and grants administration is an advantage.
  • At least three to four years of experience in research and grants administration.
  • Knowledge of research administration, US federal and non-federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
  • Understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Code of Federal Regulations (CFAR, USA), OMB Circulars, and related policies.
  • Familiarity with the 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance) and online grants management systems like SAM and eCommons.
  • Ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage research grants, contracts, and agreements internationally.
  • Experience with various award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and judgment skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to stay updated on compliance regulations and handle pressure to meet deadlines.
