
Wireless Technician

The Wireless Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wireless communication systems, including Wi-Fi networks, mobile communication equipment, and radio frequency (RF) systems. This role ensures seamless wireless connectivity and optimal network performance across the organization or client sites.
Key Responsibilities:- Install, configure, and maintain wireless communication systems (Wi-Fi routers, access points, antennas, and repeaters).
- Perform site surveys to determine optimal equipment placement and signal coverage.
- Troubleshoot and resolve wireless network issues, including interference, weak signals, and hardware malfunctions.
- Maintain and upgrade wireless infrastructure as needed, including firmware and security updates.
- Monitor wireless network performance and provide reports or recommendations to improve connectivity.
- Collaborate with IT/network teams to ensure integration with other network systems.
- Set up and configure mobile and handheld communication devices (e.g., radios, smartphones, tablets).
- Document installation procedures, network diagrams, configurations, and maintenance logs.
- Provide technical support and training to end-users on wireless systems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal IT/security policies.
Education & Experience:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in wireless communications or networking roles.
- Certifications such as CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator), CompTIA Network+, or Cisco CCNA Wireless are a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of wireless networking protocols (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
- Familiarity with RF principles, signal propagation, and spectrum analysis.
- Experience with wireless site survey tools (e.g., Ekahau, NetSpot).
- Knowledge of wireless security standards (WPA2/WPA3, firewalls, VPN).
- Ability to work with various hardware vendors (Cisco, Ubiquiti, Aruba, etc.).
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to client or remote sites if required.
- May require working in various environments such as rooftops, ceilings, data centers, and outdoor locations.
- Occasional lifting of heavy equipment.
- May involve working after hours or on weekends during installations or outages.
