The job responsibilities include:

  1. Adopting a professional approach with patients, staff, and visitors.
  2. Working within one's experience and competence, and clearly communicating orders from consultants and team members.
  3. Providing 24-hour medical coverage, including routine and emergency care, in coordination with other MOs.
  4. Evaluating admitted patients through history taking, physical examination, and documentation in HMIS.
  5. Conducting morning, evening, and night ward rounds, ideally with nursing staff, and visiting patients as appropriate.
  6. Recording patient progress and events in HMIS following rounds or examinations.
  7. Seeking advice from senior team members regarding patient health issues.
  8. Receiving handover reports and attending ward areas promptly at shift start.
  9. Providing pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
  10. Managing laboring patients and performing vaginal deliveries within their competency level.
  11. Assessing and managing patients in the ER, with complex antenatal cases referred to SMO or specialists.
  12. Performing medical procedures as advised by the Consultant, within their experience.
  13. Liaising with nursing staff to monitor patient progress and conducting examinations as requested.
  14. Discussing discharge medications with patients and preparing discharge summaries.
  15. Maintaining patient confidentiality at all levels.
  16. Providing urgent medical attention to staff or visitors in case of accidents or sudden illnesses.
  17. Remaining on hospital premises during duty hours and ensuring continuous coverage in the absence of other medical officers.
  18. Complying with hospital policies, especially regarding Health and Safety.
  19. Maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and families.
