Job Description: Backend Developer for Unity WebGL Game (Headless Server)

Position: Backend Developer – Unity Game Server

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer to build a robust, scalable, and secure backend system to support a Unity-based WebGL game. The backend will include REST APIs, real-time data handling, and deployment of a headless Unity game server.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful/WebSocket APIs for a Unity WebGL game.
  • Create and deploy Unity headless server builds to manage real-time multiplayer sessions.
  • Implement user authentication, matchmaking, leaderboards, and session persistence.
  • Manage databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or similar) for game data and user profiles.
  • Optimize server performance for latency and scalability.
  • Work with the game development team to integrate frontend (Unity) with backend services.
  • Deploy, monitor, and maintain backend services in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, etc.).
  • Ensure security best practices are applied (e.g., JWT tokens, secure sockets).

Requirements:

  • Experience with real-time networking (WebSockets, Photon, Mirror, etc.).
  • Experience deploying Unity headless server builds.
  • Familiarity with Unity WebGL and UnityWebRequest API integration.
  • Strong database knowledge (SQL or NoSQL).
  • Understanding of multiplayer architecture, session management, and load balancing.
  • Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
